Second Ground Entertainment will stage its inaugural ‘Ballers in the Summer’ knockout street football tournament July 24-26 at the Pouderoyen Tarmac, West Demerara.
The event, which will be contested for over $500,000 in cash and other prizes, will feature 16 teams from West Demerara, Georgetown and East Bank of Demerara.
Representing the West Demerara region will be Showstoppers, DeKinderen United, Samaroo Dam, Patentia Street Ballers, Admiral United, Brothers United, West Side Ballers, Raiders, Dem Amstel, Uitvlugt and Parfaite Harmonie.
North Ruimveldt, West Front Road Gold is Money, Queen Street Tiger Bay and Sparta Boss will lead the Georgetown charge while Agricola will be the lone representative from the East Bank of Demerara.
The eventual tourney champs will earn $200,000.
The opening matchup of the night at 19:00hrs will pit Agricola against West Front Road Gold is Money while North Ruimveldt will oppose Uitvlugt in the second fixture at 19:30hrs.
In the third match DeKinderen will oppose Samaroo Dam from 20:00hrs while at 20:30hrs, Queen Street Tiger Bay will oppose Patentia Street Ballers in the fourth fixture.
The fifth matchup will pit Brothers United against Admiral United from 21:00hrs while West Side Ballers and Parfaite Harmonie will lock horns from 21:30hrs. In the final two matchups, Sparta Boss will oppose Den Amstel from 22:00hrs while Showstoppers will lock horns with Raiders from 22:30hrs.
Sponsors of the event include Ansa McAl under the Stag Beer brand, Golf Motor Oil, Tojos Sports Club and A. Forrester Lumberyard among others.
