Three-day street football fest set

The inaugural Second Ground Entertainment ‘ballers in the summer’ three-day knockout street football tourney will commence today at the Pouderoyen Tarmac in the West Demerara region with eight fixtures.

The event which will be contested for over $500,000 in cash and prizes, will feature 16 teams from the West Demerara, Georgetown and East Bank of Demerara locales. The

eventual winner of the championship will walk away with $200,000.

The opening matchup of the night at 19:00hrs will pit East Bank of Demerara unit Agricola against heavyweights West Front Road-Gold is Money while giants North Ruimveldt will oppose Uitvlugt in the second fixture at 19:30hrs.

In the third affair, DeKinderen will oppose Samaroo Dam from 20:00hrs while at 20:30hrs, Georgetown unit Queen Street Tigerbay will oppose Patentia Street

The fifth matchup will pit Brothers United against Admiral United from 21:00hrs while West Side Ballers and Parfaite Harmonie will lock horns from 21:30hrs. In the final two matchups, Sparta Boss will oppose Den Amstel from 22:00hrs while Showstoppers will lock horns with Raiders from 22:30hrs.

Upon the conclusion of the opening night, the tournament will continue at the same venue tomorrow with the respective semi-final matchups. The event will then conclude on Sunday July 26th at the same locale with the respective championship matchup and the corresponding third place playoff.
