Despite a stop order from the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown, construction is continuing at this building at 81-82 Robb and Camp streets.
Town Clerk Royston King yesterday told Stabroek News that while the owner of the site has explained that his plans and applications are presently with the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), there is no application at City Hall. “We have directed him to seek formal/written permission from the City’s Engineering Department before we will allow works to continue,” King said.
Last week, City Hall ordered that all construction works at the location cease until the developer has received appropriate permission from the City Engineer’s Department.
King had explained that investigations at City Hall have shown that the developer, Rizwan Naim Khan, had not applied for permission from the council to erect any structure at that location. “He has no permission to build and so he has been directed to cease all works as of yesterday (last Wednesday),” King said.
Khan, who is the owner of the Discount store on Regent Street and the TelePerformance building opposite the present construction site, was the owner of a 20,000-square feet building previously located at that site. That building, which he had brought from Kissoon’s two years ago, went up in flames in July of last year.
