Man assaulted wife for not using his photo on WhatsApp profile -court hears

A Cummings Lodge man was yesterday brought before a court on a charge that he assaulted his common-law wife because she refused to use his photo as her WhatsApp profile picture.

It is alleged that Fernando Singh, 27, of Lot 276 Fourth Field, Cummings Lodge, on January 13 unlawfully assaulted his wife Alicia Kevin.

Singh pleaded not guilty to the charge when he was arraigned at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

According to Police Prosecutor David Goodridge, Singh and Kevin were in bed at their Cummings Lodge home when the man told her to change her WhatsApp profile picture to a picture of him.

When Kevin refused, Singh got angry and began choking and beating her with a pipe. A report was eventually made to the police by Kevin and Singh was arrested.

Singh was granted $45,000 bail and he was placed on a bond to keep the peace by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul. The matter will be heard again on February 3.
