Miner found with ganja at Camp St jail – court told

A miner was on Wednesday remanded to prison on a drug trafficking charge after he was allegedly found with marijuana at the Camp Street prison.

It is alleged that on January 11, at the Camp Street prison, Colin Roberts had 294 grammes of narcotics in his possession for trafficking.

Roberts, 22, of 68 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Roberts told the court that he was standing alongside a woman at the prison when prison officers allegedly discovered the narcotics between them. He added that there were several cameras “looking” at him at the time of the discovery.

He was refused bail and remanded to prison until January 28.

Another man, Arnold Aaron, was also charged on Wednesday with drug trafficking.

According to the police, on January 12, at Arapaima Street, Georgetown, Aaron was found with 20 grammes of narcotics in his pants crotch.

Aaron, of Critchlow Street, Tucville, pleaded not guilty to the charge and he was remanded to prison until January 28.

Meanwhile, Christopher Kawall, 28, was ordered to pay a $30,000 fine after pleading guilty to narcotics possession.

Kawall, an accountancy student and a hotel accountant, was found with 14 grammes of cannabis on January 12, at Station Street, Kitty.

The man told the court that he uses marijuana to relieve stress and pain. He stated that he suffers from eczema and the cracking of his skin causes a lot of pain.

Kawall was ordered to pay the $30,000 fine but he was also warned that if he is charged with the same offence again the punishment would be far greater.
