Port Kaituma miner dies after accidentally shooting self in Venezuela camp

A Port Kaituma man died over the weekend, succumbing to a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound he received in neighbouring Venezuela.

Stabroek News was told that 21-year-old Keron Caleb, of Port Kaituma, North West District, died while being transported to the Port Kaituma Hospital some four hours away from the mining camp where he had been working in Venezuela.

Police officials stated that the man had reportedly been playing with the firearm when it accidently went off, hitting him in the upper thigh. After realising Caleb had been shot, several of his workmates attempted to transport him to Port Kaituma. However, he died before reaching the hospital.
