An unidentified man died instantly yesterday morning after a John Fernandes Limited truck ran over his head in the vicinity of the Public Buildings in Georgetown.
Traffic Chief Dion Moore said that around 8.30am yesterday ranks responded to a report of an accident during which the victim died. The driver, he said, was taken into police custody.
While the circumstances surrounding the accident are unclear, up to late yesterday afternoon no relatives of the man turned up at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) to identify him.
Stabroek News was told that the man suffered from some physical disability. It is unclear if he was one of the vagrants who frequently congregate along the pavements surrounding the Public Buildings.
