Clive Jagan resigns from Parliament

As consideration of the 2016 Budget estimates begins there is speculation over who will replace People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Parliamentarian Dr Clive Jagan who tendered his resignation last week due to illness.

Up to press time the PPP/C had not yet decided on a replacement and was still perusing its National Top up list, though sources say that former Local Government Minister Norman Whittaker, Hydar Ally and former Region 8 Regional Executive Officer Ronald Harsawack are being considered

Speaker of the House Dr Barton Scotland made the announcement of Jagan’s resignation last Thursday, informing that the resignation was effective from February 10th 2016.

Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo had announced at a press conference earlier this month that Jagan, who had been absent for six sittings at that point, was ill and receiving medical treatment overseas.

Jagan, who is the nephew of late President and PPP founder Dr Cheddi Jagan, made his entry into active politics shortly before the May, 2015 elections with his endorsement of the party.
