While there was no official report of the extent of the injuries this newspaper understands that the dead man sustained mainly head injuries.

One of his cousins said that his death has sent shock waves through the family circle. He explained that Waithe had just left his mother’s Second Street, Mocha home where he had gone to eat lunch as was his custom when tragedy struck.

Residents expressed their concern about the speed of the minibus at the time of the accident, noting that everything happened very fast. Many related hearing the sound of a loud impact and before they could turn around Waithe was already in the trench. His bicycle was completely mangled.

Traffic Chief Deon Moore yesterday confirmed that the driver of the minibus was taken into custody as investigations into the matter continue.
