Sex workers charged with violent robbery

Two sex workers yesterday found themselves before a city court on a charge that they robbed a man in a violent attack.

David Bissoon, 22, of 651 West Plantation, West Coast Demerara, and Collis Abrams, 22, of 91 Enmore North, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to robbing Ray Anthony La Cruz on February 17th, at King Street. It was alleged that the two relieved La Cruz of his radio set, valued at $100,000 and $50,000 cash, and at the time of, immediately before, or immediately after the robbery, used personal violence.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones stated that he had no objections to bail being granted to the accused as long as it was in a substantial amount.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan subsequently set bail at $25,000 for each of the accused and adjourned the matter to March 7, when they will make their next court appearance before Magistrate Dylon Bess in Court 6.
