Mon Repos man placed on bail after denying knife attack

A Mon Repos man, accused of wounding a man with a knife after a dispute, was yesterday placed on $80,000 bail after denying the charge.

It is alleged that on February 2, at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, Balram Heeralall, of Lot 913 Martyr’s Ville, Mon Repos, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Dennis Ally.

Heeralall, 45, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Sparendaam Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Better Hope Community Centre, where the court is temporarily being held.

Police prosecutor Shevon Jupiter, who objected to bail, said that on the day in question, Ally and two others were at a shop consuming alcohol when Heeralall came and started an argument which led to a scuffle between the men. Heeralall then left the shop but returned with a knife and another fight started and ended with Ally sustaining injuries to his hand.

Heeralall was subsequently granted bail and was ordered to make a second appearance in court on March 22 for a report and statements.
