Fisherman dies in Houston accident

A fisherman died on the spot yesterday morning after he was hit off of his bicycle by a motor car at Houston, East Bank Demerara.

Dead is fisherman, J. C. Marshall.

Stabroek News understands that Marshall was riding his bicycle on the western lane of the road, when a car which was travelling in the opposite direction lost control and collided with him. He was pitched into a nearby trench where he died instantly.

The car also ended up in the trench resulting in extensive damage.

When this newspaper visited the scene yesterday, a number of persons related that they were heading to work around 7 am when they saw a large crowd. Upon further inquiry, they saw Marshall who appeared to be already dead lying in the drain while his belongings were scattered and his bicycle mangled.

They reported that the driver of the car was speeding at the time.

Traffic Chief Deon Moore confirmed that the driver of the motor car was taken into custody.
