Letter to Holder from 67 Wales workers made redundant

Dear Editor,

Below is a copy of a letter sent to Minister of Agriculture Noel Holder signed by 67 Wales sugar workers, whose employment status was brought to an end arbitrarily earlier this month. They are seeking his intervention to have them re-engaged in their jobs as they seek to eke out a living.

“Dear Minister,

“We the undersigned workers of Wales Estate are no longer hired from week ending 6th February, 2016 because the estate will be closed on December 31, 2016 as was announced by the government.

“We are forced to solicit financial support from friends and relatives for our existence. We cannot continue to beg. At least, Mr Minister, direct GuySuCo to provide work [for] us because we depend on the estate for our livelihood and our daily bread. This request is also in keeping with your statement that no one [would] have lost their jobs.”
