A man is now dead after he was shot after allegedly robbing a police officer of a gold chain in the city yesterday.
A police statement identified the deceased as “Sherwin Monka,” of Albouystown, who it said confronted a police officer, who is also a licensed firearm holder, as he was walking along Robb Street, Georgetown.
The attack, police said, occurred around 7.30am.
The man then subsequently attacked the officer, relieved him of his gold chain and was subsequently shot, police added.
Monka later succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The statement added that the Police Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting investigations into the shooting.
When Stabroek News visited Monka’s residence yesterday, no one was home.
