Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter written by Eric Phillips published in Stabroek News on the 8th day of March, 2016, under the caption ‘Where will the users of the proposed Church Street casino park?’
Mr Phillips raises a number of legal issues and requirements which he opines that I need to satisfy. I wish, first, to thank Mr Phillips for his deep and abiding concerns, and I wish to assure him that whatever legal requirements I am required to meet in any of my business endeavours, I will do so. He does not need, therefore, to worry about my obligations.
Mr Phillips makes reference to the Marriott Hotel and attempts to draw certain inferences. The Marriot Hotel has no connection to me and should not have any bearing whatsoever on any investments of mine. Mr Phillips next ponders from where I will get parking facilities for my business. That is my problem not Mr. Phillips’s. Again, I wish to assure Mr Phillips that in securing parking, I will not offend any laws or deprive anyone of any of their legal entitlements. He inquires of me who signed the MOU on behalf of the government. It is not my place to disclose such information. That information can be requested from the government. Mr Phillips argues that there is no casino in the City of New York. This, without more, demonstrates how far removed Mr Phillips is from reality.
To the Eric Phillips of this world, I say without hesitation that I will continue to invest in my country and I will continue to create jobs for my people as I try in my own humble way to better myself and to advance the welfare of my fellow citizens and indeed, my country. I do it without pomp and fanfare; I do it without appealing to the baser instincts of mankind; I do it without exploiting existing cleavages amongst my people; I do it with a hope to unite; I do it with sincerity; I do it my way and I will continue to do it that way.
