Sparendaam youth stabbed to death

A Sparendaam youth was found dead with three stab wounds along the East Coast Railway Embankment on Wednesday night.

Dead is Sherwin Lynch, 19, of Sparendaam Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.

Police said Lynch’s body was found with stab wounds around 8.30pm along the Goedverwagting Railway Embankment Road.

Lynch’s sister, who did not want to be named, told Stabroek News that she last saw the young man around 5pm on Wednesday afternoon, when he left her Sparendaam home to go to their neighbours. “He de leff and seh he was going around the corner and he gone. But I know he was supposed to collect some $50,000 from some man. I don’t know who this man is or what he does do but he de call the man and the man de call he back yesterday [Wednesday] afternoon, so me ain’t know,” she said.

Around 8pm, she added, she received a call from someone who informed her that Lynch was shot.

“Well I heard they de find he body and he was shot but it wasn’t so when I reach the hospital. It was stab wounds not gunshot,” she added. She said Lynch was stabbed three times; once to his right shoulder, the right side of his chest and in his right thigh.

A neighbour told Stabroek News that she had seen Lynch riding around the area on a bicycle with a friend. “I hear a silver car de following them all over and when they reach a dark corner somebody come out and stab them up and he friend get stab too but he didn’t die,” the neighbour added.

Lynch was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lynch’s companion, who was with him at the time of the fatal attack, is currently in police custody.
