KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The hearing for West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell to answer charges on a doping ‘whereabouts rule violation’ has been set for March 23, the Jamaica Observer has reported.
While there has been no confirmation from authorities, the newspaper said the hearing was set to take place this month at an undisclosed location.
The 27-year-old Russell is unlikely to attend the hearing, however, as he is currently campaigning with the West Indies at the Twenty20 World Cup in India.
The tournament runs from March 8 to April 3.
Russell ran afoul of doping regulations by missing three anti-doping tests over a 12-month period, the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) said recently.
According to World Anti-Doping Agency rules, athletes are required to alert their local anti-doping body as to their whereabouts on a daily basis in order to facilitate drug tests.
Three missed doping checks constitutes a positive test.
Russell, a key member of the West Indies squad in the shorter versions of the game, could face a ban of up to two years if found guilty.
Currently, the Jamaican is one of the most well-travelled West Indies T20 players, and has campaigned in all the major domestic leagues across the globe over the last 12 months.
