PPP still to decide on how to proceed after Mabaruma tie

PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee yesterday said that no final decision has been taken on how the party would deal with a tie at the just-concluded Mabaruma town council elections.

Asked about the process to choose a mayor given that there is a tie between the PPP/C and the APNU+AFC, Rohee told a press conference that the party has not made a decision yet.

He noted that there are two ways to deal with such a situation—going to a by-election, which will see the election process being repeated, or have a rotation following a written agreement between the two parties.

“We haven’t decided on that as a political party. There are seven ties… We are not going to agree to anything that would put us in a disadvantageous position, politically. After we have discussed these matters, fully, internally, we will decide on which option we will go for,” Rohee said.
