Witness backs up alibi of accused in moneychangers’ robbery

A witness for Troy Abrams, the man accused in last November’s armed robbery of America Street moneychangers, has said he was at his girlfriend’s home when the attack took place.

Kempton Glenn corroborated Abrams’s alibi on Monday when he took the witness stand in a city court, where the accused is on trial.

Abrams and his now deceased co-accused, Anthony Primo, were charged with robbing moneychangers Ryburn Fraser and Osoffo Ward of over $2 million in local and foreign currency before they made good of their escape on motorbikes.

He was called on to lead his defence last week, after the magistrate found that sufficient evidence was provided by the prosecution to make out a case against him.

During testimony, Abrams had said that on the night of the attack he was with his girlfriend, Lashonna De Caries at Lot 5 East La Penitence watching a movie, the family drama ‘Soul Food.’ He said that he was at his girlfriend’s residence all day and even at the time the attack occurred.

Abrams told the court that he learned of the attack when a neighbour came over and informed his girlfriend of it.

De Caries had also testified in support of Abrams, whom she called her fiancé. She said they were home watching a movie on YouTube. When cross-examined by Jones, she said the movie they watched was an “action” film but she could not recall its name.

Glenn, in his testimony on Monday, stated that he found out about the robbery while on Facebook and he went over to De Caries residence to tell her. While there, he said, he saw the accused in the home.

Glenn is expected to return to court on March 30, when he would be cross-examined by the prosecution.
