Guard acquitted on gun, ammo charges

A security guard, who police say was found with an illegal firearm and ammunition last year, was yesterday found not guilty of the crime by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

Gordon Mars was charged on March 10, 2015 with being in possession of a .32 pistol and 11 matching rounds of ammunition.

In her ruling, city magistrate Azore stated that there were inconsistencies in the evidence presented by the prosecution. She added that she was still unsure about the number of persons that were with Mars, where he was searched and where he was.

The magistrate stated that she had to go with the evidence presented by the two witnesses brought by the defendant and his attorney, Peter Hugh, given that it was consistent. Mars was subsequently found not guilty.
