Windies victories have revived interest in cricket

Dear Editor,

The outstanding performances of the West Indies senior players in winning the T20 world cup championship for the second time, the victory of the women players also in the T20 tournament as well the excellent performance of our under 19 players to bring home the bacon, have certainly revived interest in the game after a relatively long time.

Interest in the game was waning, but it has bounced back and a large number of fans have expressed their willingness to witness the CPL matches carded between July 28 and 31 at the Central Broward Stadium, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Six teams will participate and besides the Windies star players like Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Kieron Powell, Lendl Simmons, Sulieman Benn, Sunil Narine, overseas stars will also be in action. Big names like Brendon Mc Cullum,, Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers, and others.

The six teams are: Guyana Amazon Warriors, Barbados Tridents, Jamaica Tallawahs, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Trinbago Knight Riders and Zouks.

Some of the other players who will be seen in action are: Andre Fletcher, Nitish Kumar, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy, Sulieman Benn, Shane Shillingford, Lendl Simmons and several other stars.

Cricket fans in the region have already contacted their relatives and friends in Florida to make arrangements for possible accommodation and after-cricket activities.

The Broward Stadium has excellent facilities and New Zealand played three matches against the West Indies on that ground before packed crowds three years ago. It can accommodate 10,000 spectators.

Yours faithfully,
Oscar Ramjeet
