Former TPL workers accused of stealing nearly $3M in plywood

Three former Toolsie Persaud Limited (TPL) workers were on Thursday charged with stealing almost $3 million in goods from the business.

Jacqueline Mangru, Junior Joseph, 55, and Oliver Coats, 66, were read a charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan that stated that between June 5th and November 7th, 2012, being employed with TPL, they stole 12 crates of plywood, valued $2.8 million.

A fourth individual, whose was identified as Lakeram (only name), is also alleged to be a suspect in the offence, however he did not appear in court and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.

Neither of the defendants was required to plea to the charge.

Mangru’s attorney stated that she was previously placed on $50,000 station bail since in 2012.

He noted that she was asked to turn in her passport and to visit the police station at regular intervals and she faithfully complied.

With no objections being made by the prosecution, bail was set at $75,000 for each of the accused.

The matter will be called again on May 9th before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
