A gold miner was yesterday charged with stealing raw gold from the mining company where he works.
Timothy Abbensetts, 42, was charged in a city court with stealing the gold, valued $60,000, from Michael Correia, of Correia Mining Company Ltd, on April 21.
Abbensetts, who works with the mining firm, denied committing the crime, which allegedly occurred at Ekereku Top Backdam, Cuyuni River.
Abbensetts, of Lot 9 Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, was placed on $20,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who adjourned the matter until June 20, when it will be heard at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
