GTT rolls out 4G service

GTT yesterday launched its 4G service, while promising 30 times the speed at the same price for customers.

The roll out of the service, which will benefit over 85% of the company’s customers, came two days after rival Digicel unveiled its 4G service.

At the GTT store in the Fogarty’s building, in Georgetown, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer Gert Post said that while those living in Georgetown, New Amsterdam and Timheri would be the primary beneficiaries of the service, it will be extended to other locations in two weeks.

According to Post, the 4G service would enable faster downloading and mobile web surfing and he noted that Guyanese can livestream videos, such as persons going to upcoming independence jubilee shows.

Post said the service offers up to three times more data but for the same price for the plans, so that customers can enjoy the new service without having to pay more on any premium or any 4G or 3G data plans.

Post also commented on the fact that with 4G, customers will use the data plan more and so the company wouldn’t force them to buy minutes for SMS. He said persons will want the high speed data and they would pay for it but they won’t want to overpay for it. Against this background, Post said that GTT is 40 per cent cheaper.

Also speaking at the launch was GTT CEO Justin Nedd, who remarked that the new service is “good for the country… which all fits into the theme of doing more.” Not quoting the direct figure of the cost of introducing the 4G service to Guyana, Nedd said it cost the company millions of dollars.
