Ex-cop, two others jailed for Pouderoyen armed robbery

At the Vreed-en-Hoop Court, Magistrate Crystal Lambert on Monday imposed four-year jail sentences on two accused on armed robbery charges while another was sentenced to three years  at the conclusion of a trial.

Gary Beckles, 26, of North Ruimveldt and Shundel ‘Sugar’ Castello, a taxi driver and an ex-policeman of East Ruimveldt, who had initially been placed on $150,000 bail each were found guilty of seven counts of robbery under arms.

Troy Green of Charles-town, who was unable to post bail and remained in prison during the trial, was sentenced to three years jail.

According to the facts, the accused robbed Andy Sookram, 54; Esardai Sookram, 47; and Andrew Sookram at their Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen home, West Bank Demerara on October 22, 2015.

It was alleged that they had tied up the Samaroo family and escaped with two generators, a weeding machine, eight gold finger rings, two gas cylinders and four cell phones.

Damee Allicock, 26, of Lot 26 River View, Ruimveldt, Georgetown was also jointly charged with the trio but the case against him was dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
