Education Ministry in 50th anniversary ceremony

The Ministry of Education on Monday morning held a Flag Raising Ceremony in honour of Guyana’s Golden Jubilee of Independence.

GINA said that the event was held on Brickdam under the theme “together we celebrate our 50th Anniversary; The Golden Jubilee.”

Delivering the feature address at the ceremony was Technical Advisor to the Minister of Education, Vincent Alexander who said that when speaking of independence, “we have to speak to the establishment of institutions that signify our independence.” These include the National Assembly, the Courts and the schools. GINA said that he added that independence is a continuous process that must be sustained.

Principal Education Officer, Immanuel Bridgewater said that to move forward as a nation, “we must strive to better ourselves.” He stated, “We must not be satisfied with what is handed down to us; we must endeavour to soar like eagles and go beyond the clouds and beyond the mountains.” Bridgewater said that all efforts must be made so that students

receive quality education. He added that at least 75 percent of the students must be able to master the curriculum. He pointed out that by mastering the curriculum, they would have a smooth transition from nursery to secondary education.
