Man accused of forging deed for land

A man was yesterday ordered to post $160,000 for bail after he was charged with forging a deed in a bid to claim land in the city.

Orin McKay was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown, where he was read two charges that he attempted to defraud William Halley by falsifying a deed and then seeking a transfer of the land.

The first charge stated that on July 26th, 2012, at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he endeavoured to obtain one individual half share at Lot 2678 Manatee Place, South Ruimveldt Park, by virtue of an application by way of a gift deed, knowing that the signature purporting same to be that of the donor, Halley, was forged. The second charge stated that on October 17th, 2012, he allegedly forged Halley’s signature on a deed of transfer.

McKay pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The prosecution made no objection to bail but requested that it be substantial to ensure McKay’s return. Bail was later set at $160,000 and the matters were adjourned until June 15th.
