Man remanded over threatening behaviour to brother

A man was on Friday remanded to prison at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court over threatening behaviour towards his brother.

Philip Williams was brought before Magistrate Faith McGusty where he was accused of assaulting his brother, Eric Williams. The defendant was also accused of making use of threatening behaviour toward his brother. Both incidents occurred on July 5 in East Ruimveldt.

The defendant, who was unable to provide his age and place of abode to the court pleaded not guilty to threatening behaviour.

Williams’s brother told the court that the defendant has a substance abuse problem and he tends to go into a frenzy whenever he uses the substance.

The court heard that the defendant went as far as to assault his 84-year-old mother and sends a chill through the community as he often walks with a cutlass.

Prosecutor Seon Blackman told the court that on the day in question the defendant approached his brother concerning a matter. Philip then allegedly pushed his brother and brandished a cutlass and threatened him.

The Prosecutor also objected to bail based on the fact that the defendant has no fixed place of abode.

Magistrate McGusty granted the defendant $20,000 bail on the assault charge and remanded him for the threatening behaviour charge.

The said matter was then adjourned to July 22.
