Private Sector Commission did not attend meeting with Mayor

Dear Editor,

The Chairman and Executives of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) wish to address statements attributed to the PSC in the Stabroek News article titled ‘Fees will only be charged for containers outside business premises – Chase-Green’, published on Monday, July 11, 2016.

The PSC wishes to state that none of its members attended any formal meeting with Her Worship Mayor Chase-Green. In fact, contrary to statements published, the PSC made no request to hold formal discussions with the Mayor regarding the container tax or the issue of parking meters. Hence PSC Chairman, Mr Edward Boyer, is concerned about the statements ascribed to the PSC.

Chairman Boyer stated “while I was contacted by the Stabroek News for a comment on the container charge, I was not a party to any formal discussions held with Mayor Chase-Green.  The PSC is committed to strengthening the relationship with the Mayor and City Council and working towards building a stronger partnership.  However, we wish to assert that no member of the PSC was invited to meet with Mayor Chase-Green on any of the matters described in the article.

“It is a priority of the PSC to create beneficial relationships with all stakeholders including the Mayor and City Council,” stated Chairman Boyer, “we welcome all opportunities to engage in discourse with the Mayor on issues that affect our members and Guyana’s business community. The partnership between the entities remains a priority for the PSC.”

Yours faithfully,

Elizabeth Alleyne

Executive Director
