Injured in the accident was Tricia Felix of Bisee, Castries, who was seated in the front passenger side of the vehicle.

According to the St Lucia Online News, Campbell’s vehicle had started spinning and later flipped into the harbour, after which eyewitnesses said they heard screams emanating from the vehicle.

The news outlet said two men rushed to the rescue but by the time they pulled out the passenger and went to Campbell’s assistance, she was unresponsive.

When doctors arrived at the scene, she was pronounced dead.

Campbell, a mother of one, was said to have been employed at KM2 Solutions Saint Lucia.

The company said in a Facebook post: “Today, tragically, we lost a true friend, a close colleague and a wonderful leader. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and relatives and of course, the entire KM2 family. We lost a great soul in Tanza Campbell. We will miss her. Sail on in peace!”

Individuals commenting on the incident says they believe crash barriers are needed to prevent a similar recurrence in the future.
