Cuyuni/Mazaruni top students rewarded

The Ministry of Social Cohesion on Friday rewarded the top performers of the 2016 Annual Grade Six Assessment 2016 from the Cuyuni/ Mazaruni (Region Seven) area with bicycles and books bags, to further encourage them in their academic pursuits, a release from the Ministry of the Presidency said yesterday.

Those awarded were Romel Smith (526) from St. John the Baptist Primary, Corena Clementson (500) from St. Anthony’s Primary, Indrani Vanlange (493) from the St. Anthony’s Primary, Amyeda Clement (488) who hails from Jawalla Primary, Navin Baboolall (485) from the High Achievers Institute, Victoria Outridge (482) from St. John the Baptist Primary, Michael Cameron (481), also from St. John the Baptiste Primary, Anil Jerry (477) from the Jawalla Primary, Nixon Williams (477), student of the Two Miles Primary and Dino Chambers (476) from the Paruima Primary.

Charles Holmes, Regional Education Officer spoke highly of the Five B’s (Boats, Buses, Bicycles, Books and Breakfast) programme, from which the region has benefitted.

The release said that the school bus makes four trips a day, ferrying 200 children per trip while a school boat for the children of Goshen, Essequibo River and footwear to all the schools in the region, has been made available.
