Guyanese girl missing in NY

Sixteen-year-old Ashley Bissal, whose family moved from Guyana to New York two years ago, is missing.

According to reports from US media including Dateline NBC, Bissal has been missing since June 23, 2016 when she failed to collect her 10-year-old sister from school.

Ashley left her family’s apartment on the historical Grand Con-course in the Bronx, New York, to pick up her sister from school, however her family has since learnt that she first went to a graduation party for her boyfriend at the Bronx Botanical Gardens.

Her family did not know that the High School of Business student had a boyfriend and have since claimed that the boy and his family are not co-operating with police as much as they could. They have claimed to have no information about her disappearance.

“We didn’t know about some of the things going on in her life, but we love her no matter what. We don’t care, all is forgiven,” Dateline reports Ashley’s father Ravi as saying. “We’re just so worried. I need my daughter home.”

He mother, Usha Bissal appearing on a local newscast described her daughter as a “wonderful girl” who was very helpful in the home.

While her father who last week spoke to reporters at a press conference outside the New York City Police Department’s 41st precinct in the Bronx is nearly inconsolable.

“I wake up in the morning and see she’s not in her bed. It’s horrible. We don’t know this country very well. Everything is new to us here still, and we don’t know who to turn to. We need help,” he is reported as saying.
