The Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs recently received $60M worth of clothing, books, pharmaceutical supplies, spectacle frames and food items, among other articles, from Hope for the Nation Foundation, a relatively new local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).
According to a press release from the Ministry, Minister Sydney Allicock expressed his thanks to the Foundation for their philanthropy, and welcomed the birth of future collaborations. The Minister noted the integral role played in conservation by the indigenous peoples as the custodians of the forest and their desire to make a significant contribution to national development.
The release added that the Foundation, headed by Dr. Abdel Bari, made the presentation at their bond at Industrial Site, Ruimveldt, Eccles, East Bank Demerara. Dr. Bari stated that the local group in collaboration with the United States based NGO Cross International, has requested a wish list from the Ministry with special emphasis placed on agriculture diversification. The NGOs are also willing to assist in creating trade opportunities for the sale of the indigenous peoples’ produce in the international market.
