Paddy bug infestation in Region Two requires urgent intervention

Dear Editor,

The Regional Democratic Council of Region Two is calling on the Minister of Agriculture to urgently intervene in addressing another major challenge that can lead to further crisis in the rice industry.

Several rice farmers reported that paddy bug infestation is on the increase. This situation is now creating further problems to farmers who have to find additional financial resources to purchase insecticides.

Farmers are already struggling due to the present state of the rice industry. With the infestation of paddy bugs rice farmers will have challenges to have quality harvest which can have a negative effect on price.

The Regional Chairman sent an email to the Minister of Agriculture seeking his timely intervention. However, there was no response (to date) as to the action the Minister will take on this important matter.

The Regional Democratic Council calls for urgent interventions to help the struggling industry and since the region two economy is heavily dependent on the rice industry.

Yours faithfully,
Davanand  Ramdatt
Chairman
Region Two
