Shortage of insulin in the country

Dear Editor,
Guyana is experiencing a shortage of insulin, a vital hormone critically necessary for diabetic patients.   In the absence of insulin, diabetics face life-threatening consequences, including lapsing into a coma.  The survival rate of people in a diabetic coma stands only at 50%. The number of diabetics who have been rushed to hospital emergency rooms within recent weeks has spiked enormously due to this shortage.  This is inhumane.
The Ministry of Health needs to urgently address this situation and provide an explanation to the nation.  Absolutely no one should ever be left to die because government fails to provide.

Yours faithfully,
Annie Baliram
