Football chief threatens to resign

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- President of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) David John- Williams has threatened to resign if allegations made against him can be proven.

John-Williams has faced a whirlwind of accusations since replacing Raymond Tim Kee as TTFA president last November.

They include claims that he used TTFA money to fund his failed campaign for president of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU).

“They have reported that TTFA monies were used to fund my campaign for CFU presidency, so I am challenging the reporter to bring evidence of this and I will resign,” declared John-Williams.

“It is all being lapped up by the public but all will be revealed in the fullness of time.”

John-Williams has also been accused of walking into a national team training session to demand the players agree to accept an international friendly against Equatorial Guinea, which the players had rejected.

“Can you actually see the president of the football association walking into a training session and addressing players without the coach? Can you imagine that?” John Williams asked.

The T&T football boss says he has given a commitment to serve but can tender his resignation anytime since the position of TTFA president is not a paying one.

“I have turned down the opportunity to run for TTFA president on four occasions and it is not a paying position, so I can walk away from this in the morning and not be concerned,”he said.

“However, I have given a commitment to assist in the development of local football and I am doing so. For now I am taking the pressure, but history will absolve me and all will see me for who I am truly. I await the evidence, now.”
