Venezuelan man charged with wounding cop

A San Martin, Venezuela man appeared before a city court on Tuesday, where he was charged with wounding a policeman and incurring debt.

Mark Williams, 36, was read two charges, the first stating that on September 8th, at Eteringbang Landing, Region Seven, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Bevon Leitch.

The victim, a policeman who reportedly approached Williams to arrest him following a complaint, sustained an abrasion to his left forearm and a 2 cm laceration to the left shoulder made with  a scissors. It was stated that Williams had been drinking prior to the encounter.

According to the second charge, on September 8th, at Eteringbang, Williams incurred a debt for eight cases of beer valued at $50,000, having obtained credit by falsely pretending to be in a position to effect payment. No further details were provided regarding this charge.

Williams was placed on $50,000 bail and a bond to keep the peace. The matter was adjourned to September 19th and transferred to the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
