Double centuries for Hetmeyer, Kandasammy as Lower Corentyne amass 649/5 declared

West Indies youth Captain Shimron Hetmeyer and Surujnarine Kandasammy struck double centuries as Lower Corentyne amassed 649/ 5 declared on the second day of their three-day Guyana Cricket Board/ Cricket Guyana Incorpo-rated Franchise League final round encounter.

Playing at the Port Mourant Community Centre ground, Lower Corentyne, with the title already in the bag, racked up 649/9 declared in reply to West Berbice’s 174 all out.

Hetmyer struck a brilliant 215 with 22 fours and one six and Kandasammy smashed 212 with 18 fours, the two, featuring in a 296-run partnership.

Avishnash Sewkarran took 4/118and Sherwyn Mc Pherson 2/45.

At close of play West Berbice were 122/2 in their second innings with Leon Andrews not out on 77.

Kandasammy is now second for runs in the tournament with 607.

At the Tuschen ground, Romario Shephard bagged 8/49 to help dismiss Essequibo for 134 all out after they resumed on their overnight 87/3.

Kemo Paul added eight more runs to his overnight 43 before he was dismissed by Shephard for 51.

Ricardo Adams was the only other batsman to offer any resistance as Shephard and Raymon Reifer bowled aggressively on a pitch with good pace and bounce, peppering the Essequibo batsmen with the short delivery. Reifer finished with 2/68.

West Demerara opted not to enforce the follow on and were 120/2 when heavy showers stopped play at 13:41 hours. Play was eventually called off without any further play. Tagenarine Chanderpaul is on 60 not out which now puts him top of the runs chart with 625 runs. Kemol Savory is the other not out batsman on 19 not out.

Shephard now has 34 wickets which is third for most wickets behind Gajanan Suknanan (36) and Eon Hooper (38).

At the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda, George-town, resuming on their overnight 116/2 were dismissed for 216. Robin Bacchus top scored with 87 while Kellon Carmichael and Sunil Singh scored 36 and 29 respectively. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, young fast bowler Keon Sinclair took 5/62 while Eon Hooper grabbed 4/61 to take his tournament tally to 38 wickets.

Upper Corentyne closed the day on 248/6 with Assad Fudadin registering his second consecutive century finishing the day on 133 not out. Jason Sinclair hit 40 and Clinton Pestano struck 34. Shawn Perreira is the other not out batsman on eight. Upper Corentyne now has an overall lead of 256 going into the final day of play today.

At Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, resuming on their overnight score of 34/0 were dismissed for 217 with captain Kamesh Yadram playing a captain’s innings of 104 not out. He struck 10 fours and three sixes. Bhaskar Yadram supported with 33 while Paul Wintz (23), Keon Roberts (22) and Ameer Khan (20) were the other major scorers.

Sherfane Rutherford 4/39, Stephen Harris 2/58 and Totaram Bishun 2/62 were the main wicket takers for East Bank Demerara who closed the day on 113/5 chasing 178 for an outright victory. Tevin Imlach is 52 not out.
