Rice board re-launches website

The Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) yesterday re-launched its website during a ceremony in the Ministry of Agriculture’s Boardroom.

A release from the Ministry of Agriculture said that the objective of the event was to not only raise awareness on issues affecting the industry, but for farmers and residents to interact with the various personnel.

The GRDB can be accessed via URL: www.grdb.gy

Chairman of the Board of Directors,  Claude Housty, who welcomed the move by the Authority, noted that while the site remained user friendly in the past, efforts have now been made for the public to access information such as current licenced exporters, rice related publications and the rice act.

Housty also used the opportunity to highlight some of the successes in the industry, adding that information will now be readily available to the public on current affairs in the sector.

“Persons can now have access to the website to view the truth on GRDB’s involvement in this vital industry.

Oftentimes, there are rumours of a particular issue and members of the public would carry the information wholesale….this is the opportunity to access up-to-date information,” he said.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture George Jervis used the opportunity to call on staff of the GRDB to be more accessible to the public.

“A crop that is so important to Guyana must always have modern interface and must also always be updated…..it is necessary that you are available 24/7 to answer any queries or to make available information (data or rice harvested) at any given time”, Jervis said.
