Bandit killed during Diamond break-in identified as Albouystown man

The bandit who was shot dead on Wednesday morning, after he and another man attempted to break into a Diamond, East Bank Demerara home, has been identified.

According to Commander of ‘A’ Division Clifton Hicken, the man has been positively identified as Elisha Simon De Florimonte, 20, of Hunter Street, Albouystown, George-town.

De Florimonte was shot twice to his neck and was transported by the police to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A 27-year-old West Ruimveldt resident, suspected to be his accomplice, was arrested in the vicinity of the crime scene is presently in custody assisting with investigations.

The attempted break-in occurred at about 2.15am at the Fifth Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara home belonging to a miner.

The police, in a statement, had said that investigations revealed that the miner was awakened by a loud noise coming from the lower flat of his house. Upon investigating, he saw two men, including one armed with a handgun, attempting to gain entry via a southern door of the house.

According to the police, an alarm was raised and the miner discharged his firearm in the direction of the bandits. One man was hit, and he subsequently fell to the ground, while his accomplice, who was armed with the handgun, managed to escape by scaling the fence. The incident was reported to the police and ranks of a mobile patrol responded promptly.
