Employees stole over $300,000 in shoes, clothing from Colours – court hears

Two youths employed by Colours on Robb Street were yesterday charged with stealing over $360,000 in shoes and clothing from the store.

It was alleged that Ishmael Braithwaite, 18, of 64 Cummings Lodge and Joel Connell, 20, of 1289 Cummings Park, Sophia, between March 1 and December 5, stole nine pairs of sneakers, valued $221,500, two pairs of slippers, valued at $24,500, and a quantity of clothing, valued at $113,700. The articles were the property of Milton Branford.

Braithwaite and Connell, who were represented by attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, both denied the charge.

The manager of the store, Robeson Brotherson, related that he did not wish to offer evidence against the two but would instead offer them a chance to reimburse the value of the items in a reasonable timeframe.

The prosecution did not object to bail but asked that the items that were recovered be returned.

Braithwaite and Connell were placed on $60,000 bail each and the matter was adjourned to December 20.
