‘B’ Field Sophia shooting victim treated at private hospital

Doctors at a private city hospital have removed the bullet which was lodged in the right leg of Gavin Ramlall who was shot during a robbery at Sophia on Thursday last.

Ramlall, 23, of Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara was shot and robbed by two men in ‘B’ Field Sophia while dropping off a spare part at a mechanic.

According to his mother, Shoma Ramlall, after spending hours at the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was first admitted and not receiving any treatment, the family took the decision to transfer him to a private hospital.

She explained that about an hour after being admitted to the private hospital he was taken for surgery and doctors removed the bullet. Gavin remains in the hospital under observation.

The mother noted that while he was at the Georgetown Public Hospital doctors didn’t act swiftly stating that had to wait on the police since he was the victim of a crime.  She stated too even though her son was in pain he was not given any medication to reduce the pain.

Gavin was waiting in the pickup tray when the two unmasked men pounced on him after exiting a gold-coloured motor car and demanded that he hand over the money.

The victim told the men he did not have any money but they ran through his pocket and took his cellular phone and $10,000. Not satisfied, the men took the vehicle key and attempted to enter but were not successful. However, the bandit broke the car window and entered the vehicle but after failing to find anything valuable, exited.

Police were immediately summoned to the scene and they dusted for fingerprints and took a statement.
