The PPP needs new leadership

Dear Editor,

I commend Vishnu Bisram for his bold letter ‘The PPP needs to reform’ (SN, December 16).

I would like to add that after the defeat at the 2015 General Election the important thing for the PPP to do was to hold itself together and not fall apart. With this achieved the important thing now is for the PPP to inject new leadership into its ranks. This can only be achieved when Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar leave the PPP. If they do not leave then the PPP will continue to lack credibility with the people who did not vote for it, as it would be considered that Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar would be pulling the strings of any future leader.

Mr Jagdeo has been President for two terms already. What does he want? To be President for life? Does he really believes that he is the only one who can save Guyana?

While the PPP philosophy is communism we need to accept that Guyanese are not running to communist countries and as such they have bought into the capitalist dream. To impose communism on the masses, which is what the PPP is attempting to do, would be unwise.

The PPP should change its philosophy from communism to democratic socialism as the PPP leaders exhibit a lifestyle with their mansions which the populace sees and understands. And, I support the call for the PPP to change the way it selects its leadership. I support the call to make the process democratic and have party members elect their leaders.

Yours faithfully,

Sean Ori
