Don’t know where to vote?

The Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) has launched a search engine that enables voters to find their respective polling stations for the upcoming March 18 local government elections.

Voters can use their National Identification (ID) number or any combination of other distinctive criteria, such as their name, local government area or address in order to access the information, which would include their district and the constituency in which they are registered as well as their place of poll.

Deputy Chief Election Officer Vishnu Persaud told Stabroek News that “the search engine, which has been extensively tested, is just another strategic facility to provide voters with access to information about their place of poll.”

“It’s all about wider access,” he said, while adding that all information accessed through the search engine will also be available in hard copy at the respective polling places.

A list of these polling places, which were publicly advertised in the daily newspapers this week, is also available on the Gecom website.

These are the latest steps in the efforts of Gecom to fulfil its mandate to equip the contestants and voters with all the tools necessary to engage in the process of local government elections.

Also available on the Gecom website are searchable lists of candidates contesting the elections, a list of the polling stations by constituencies and districts (regions) as well as the registered voters’ lists by Local Government Area and District.
