Construction worker shot twice, robbed

A construction worker is currently a patient at a city hospital after he was ambushed by two bandits who shot him twice and snatched $1.8 million.

The incident occurred around 10:00 hrs yesterday at Alexander Street, Kitty during which Sean Harper, 46, of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was shot to the abdomen and right foot.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) by public spirited persons where he is said to be in a stable condition having had emergency surgery to remove a lodged bullet.

According to a police press release, Harper was about to exit his motor vehicle at Alexander Street, Kitty, when he was attacked by a man armed with a handgun.

“The man smashed the window of the vehicle and grabbed a bag containing $1.8 million and then discharged rounds at Harper before escaping in a car driven by an accomplice,” the release said.

However, information gathered by this newspaper revealed that Harper might have been trailed from Republic Bank at the corner of Camp and Robb streets, Georgetown where he had changed a cheque.

Reports indicated that after leaving the bank, Harper had gone to Kitty to transact business, when the man, who had a cloth tied around his face, attacked him.

Having smashed the driver’s side window of Harper’s car, snatched his bag and shot him, the man escaped in a yellow 212 motorcar.

Investigations are ongoing.
