Parika mother of three still critical

The Parika, East Bank Essequibo mother of three, who was brutally chopped about her body three days ago continues to battle for her life and it is understood that the incident stemmed from her asking her attacker to contribute towards the maintenance of their son.

Bibi Shareema, 26, was up to yesterday afternoon still in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Her mother, Bibi Shameela, who was also chopped, was said to be recovering slowly following a successful surgery to her hand.

The incident occurred on Wednesday around 10.40 pm after which the attacker whose name was given as ‘Moon’ ingested poison. He died at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) on Friday.

Reports revealed that the man broke into the home and attacked Bibi Shareema and her mother with a cutlass. He then escaped and was later apprehended by the police, by which time he had already ingested a poisonous substance, and was taken to the hospital.

Shareema’s sister, Sheliza (only name given) informed this newspaper yesterday afternoon that based on what she was told, the attacker visited Shareema on Wednesday afternoon during which she asked him for some money towards maintaining their child (Shareema’s youngest). Sheliza said the man became annoyed and subsequently left but later returned drunk.

“I hear he come back with a bottle of poison in the hand and jump the gate, remove the louvre and start chop them,” she related.

She said the man had verbally abused her sister on numerous occasions in the past, adding that sometimes he would go to the home “and pelt up bottle and so and cuss she up.”

Shareema’s father, Mohamed Ibrahim, had told this newspaper that he was at work when he received a call from his 15-year-old daughter informing him of the incident. He said after the attacker gained entry into the house, he went to the bedroom where Shareema was sleeping with her three children, aged, 2, 4 and 5, and attacked her first.

Her mother heard her screaming and had gone to her assistance when the man attacked her.

Ibrahim had related that Shareema shared a one-year relationship with the man. They separated when she became pregnant as he had constantly accused her of infidelity. Her two older children are from a previous marriage.

He also said that the man would visit the child whenever he came from sea, but would only give money grudgingly for support after Shareema begged him.
