Registrar of Deeds, Azeena Baksh was yesterday afternoon robbed of a quantity of electronics and jewellery when two armed bandits invaded her Young Professionals Housing Scheme, Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home.
Acting Crime Chief, Hugh Jessemy confirmed the incident which occurred around 1:25 pm. He said an investigation has been launched and efforts are being made to apprehend the suspects.
Efforts to contact Baksh proved futile.
Reports revealed that at the time of the incident Baksh was at her house while a security guard was on duty and a contractor was present carrying out some exterior work.
The bandits, one of whom was masked and both armed with handguns, gained entry after the contractor reportedly opened the gate. Before he could have re-entered the men pulled firearms and held the security guard at gunpoint. They then walked him to Baksh’s door and ordered that he call on her and ask for a glass of water. It was during this process that the men forced their way into the house and proceeded to tie her up along with the security guard and contractor.
They carted off a quantity of electronics and a gold chain valued at some $180,000 and made good their escape.
Shortly after the ordeal, a relative of Baksh arrived at the house and freed them.
The police were alerted and investigations were carried out. Searches were also done in the area for the men but ranks came up empty-handed.
