Women miners conduct training for Trafficking in Persons survivors

The Guyana Woman Miners Organisation (GWMO) with the Carnegie School of Home Economics, over the July-August school break, coordinated an extensive skills training programme for survivors of Trafficking in Persons.

According to a GWMO press release yesteday, the programme allowed survivors of all educational backgrounds to earn certificates in garment construction, fabric designing, cookery and baking with the aim of pointing them in the direction of economic independence.

The programme was sponsored by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission. Materials were provided by GWMO, Treasure James (Miss Guyana Universe 1st Runner Up), Global Seafood Distributors, Dawnella Altenor, Joan Williams and Veronica Charles. Clothes were provided by Ming’s Service and Products Ltd.
