Skeldon estate worker dies after bee attack

A worker attached to the Skeldon Estate lost his life yesterday afternoon after a swarm of Africanised bees attacked him at the backdam where he was working.

The deceased has been identified as Taijram Jainarine, also known as ‘Plastic’, 57, of Number 69 Village, Corentyne.

According to information gathered, two men were operating a tractor in the process of building a dam when the bees attacked them. A source at the estate revealed that the survivor of the attack told his superiors that after the bees attacked them, he ran pass the deceased and hid in some bushes.

After a few minutes, he called his workmate’s name, but received no response, except groans from Jainarine. The worker said he was he was afraid to come out of hiding, but informed the estate officials who rushed to the backlands.

Jainarine was discovered dead some metres away from the tractor. His body is currently at the Skeldon Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

When contacted by Stabroek News, Jainarine’s wife was in a state of shock. He also leaves three sons to mourn.
