Youth charged with stealing $1M in cash, ring from boss

A Laing Avenue youth was yesterday charged with stealing a ring and cash, valued at $1 million in total, from his boss.

Christopher Small, 24, of Lot 6 A Laing Avenue, Georgetown, stood in front of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown and pleaded not guilty to the charge that between October 1 and October 31, 2015, he stole a diamond and gold ring, worth $550,000, and $450,000, in cash from John Raymond.

Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers, who had no objection to bail, told the court that the virtual complainant and the accused were working together, when one day Small stole Raymond’s house keys and entered the home without his knowledge. Jeffers said Small went into the house and stole the items. According to the prosecutor, Small, while he was under caution, later admitted to police that he committed the crime.

The Chief Magistrate subsequently placed Small on $70,000 bail and adjourned the matter to November 22 for statements.
